What a difference switching my tractor over to positive ground made,Run like a charm, way more power and i always had a miss that i just couldn't get rid off, well even that is now gone, ran great, moved some heavy wet snow,lifted the big bucket right full with no problem.I still have a lot of work i want to do on this ole girl but it sure is nice when you can get so much better performance for so little work,lol.Thanks guys.

Morning Toolman and everyone else. I read this post with great interest. Please dont think this is a stupid question, but how does one know if your hooked up positive or negative? I own a 1952 TEA 20-85 and thought all along its hooked up on the positive side, now Im not sure. It always starts hard, but never fails to start ever. This time of the year it sits outside at the end of my drive way waiting to plow snow and always needs a boost to get her going. Looking forward to hearing back from all my freinds. Stay well. Barry

Look at the battery connections, Barry. There is one connection that will be attached to the chasis of the tractor and that is the ground. Look at the terminal that the ground connection is on, + or -, and that will be the ground polarity. Then check your coil. The wire going to your distibutor from the coil should have the same sign as your ground. (The coil is generaly marked + or - also.)If you don't have the coil polarity correct, you'll lose about have your spark energy.

12 volt and positive ground????What am i missing here?If i try to positive ground anything 12 volt i have,i end up buy new alternaters.

Tea 20 fergy tractor 12 volt , genny, has been running negative ground for a long time , switiched it over to positive ground last night, made the world of difference in performance.

Yes it sure does john.I couldn,t believe the difference, all the tune up stuff i did last fall didn,t improve it as much as this lol, thanks for your help john it is always appreciated .

I am going to add that little bit of information to my Service Bulletins just so that it will be checked as well as doing all the usual tune-up stuff. That was good information and is often overlooked when checking the electrics....John

So now you have the coil and battery polarities matching. Could have swapped the coil primary terminals and accomplished the same thing.

No it has always been 12 volt, but it has been negative ground since i bought, i bought a service manual and seeing there that it should of been positive ground, so i asked these guys here and they agreed, i switched it tonight and i couldn't believe the difference .
