I cleaned out the carb., fuel bowl, and line and found all kinds of dirt and bugs. I put it back together and it runs great. There is only one problem, I think. It seems to idle a little faster than before. I adjusted the idler adjuster all the way in and backed it out. About 2 turns out it makes a little difference, but after that there is no difference at all. You can even take the idler adjuster all the way out and there is no dif. Is this normal since it is cleaned and runs smoother and this is what is causing it to run a little higher rpms? Thanks Tim

Tim, sounds like your talking about the idle mixture screw? The idle speed is adjusted by the stop screw on the backside of the carb, where the linkage hooks-up to the carb., and by adjusting the linkage length. The small screw in the carb body on the outside of the carb is the idle mixture adjustment, that adjusts the amount of air allowed to pass during idle. It only affects idle when the throttle valve is closed. Your right, turning the mixture screw in & out has very little effect on the idle speed. You want to set the mix screw at ~7/8 out, then adjust based on smoothest running idle, not speed. If your throttle valve is not all the way closed, resulting in fast idle, the idle mix screw won't affect anything. Is it possible your linkage turned in a 1/2 turn or so when you pulled your carb? May need to adjust your idle speed 1st with the stop screw at the linkage and maybe a linkage adjustment, THEN adjust the idle mix screw for best running at idle.

Thanks for the info. You are probably right. I was adjusting the idler adjuster and the throttle adjuster, but the shaft has probably turned just like you said. Sometimes your brain just doesn't work and you need someone else to tell you what to do. Thanks Tim

How did you clean out the carb? You need to soak it in real carb cleaner at least 24 hrs then blow out all the passages and make sure they are clear. Your idle passage must still be plugged.
