TO30 Axel Bearing Seal Leaking Peanut Butter

I'm the new owner of a '51 TO30 that has developed a leak that I am guessing is the left axel bearing seal. That's the first problem. Second problem is that it has the "peanut butter" look when oil/transmission gear lube is contaminated with water. I've ordered a set of manuals but does anyone have suggestions/warnings/"I'd turn back if I were you" advice before I invest the time and skin off my knuckles -- things like special tools, suggestions of how to flush out the contaminants, other stuff I need to check out, possible sources of the original problems, etc. Also, does anyone know where I can find a) ROPS, b) tractor cover c)Ferguson emblem hat? Any and all advice welcome.

The old oil/water may be drained by removing three drain plugs. the diff. plug, the tranny plug and the plug between the two. All are on the bottom and have square heads. The oil is common to diff., tranny, and hyds. Replace with 80w straight mineral oil. The bolts to tighten to stop the seal leak are close to the axle housing inside the wheel. These bolts are called: the bearing retainer bolts and hold the assy. together similar to that on a truck, only the bolts are behind the backing plate. No special tools needed.
