Could someone tell me what year of 35's they used a filter in the hydraulic system? I am planning on changing the hydraulic oil on a couple of my 35's and am planning on cleaning/flushing as well.
I don't think my 1955 will have one, but the other is a 1959. Are these filters reusable with a good rinsing, or are they disposable? Thanks in advance. Oh, yea, after rinsing-will the actual drain holes work well enough to remove ALL fluid, or are there pockets that may hold the cleaning solution that I need to worry about>? Many thanks, Mark

Mark, Not much help with your filter issue BUT...

Sure would like to see some pictures of your dads tractor. Have you posted any? If not please do.

Your tractor may have the filter in if the Pump has been changed at some time, but it didn't have one in 1959. Remove the PTO from the tractor will help with the cleaning and mopping up inside. If it is tight coming out of the tractor it will be the "O" ring that is holding it, so just pull.

hey mark...you're right...the '55's don't have a filter screen, but i'm pretty sure your '59 will. according to my book you just clean it and replace it. it's more of a screen than a filter.

i suggest that when you get ready to drain your oil, run your tractor long enuf to get the oil as hot as possible, then let it drain at least overnight. pull the control lever cover off the left side slowly, leaning the top part out til you can look inside to see how your control lever connects to your PTO gear (it just fits into the groove around it) so you'll know how to put it back together. that's where you'll find the filter screen and be able to do quite a bit of "swabbing" on the inside. i splashed lots of kerosene inside mine to clean things out. one thing i did was to jack up the right side of the whole tractor to get the oil to flow towards the drain holes and also to get it to where i could swab it out the best. good luck...

Much appreciated, I have been reading the Pro's and Con's regarding running transmission and running through hydraulic pump. I had considered taking my 65 and pulling the 35's (yes, one at a time) around the back fourty for a few laps and splash the kerosene around a bit.--think that would do anything, or just stick to the garden sprayer and get what i can get?
The 1955 was my fathers, he gave to me before he passed, and I hate to do ANYTHING to it. It is absolutely perfect and original-except for the surface rust on the sheet metal..It sat in his barn for 20 years. I don't even want to change plug wires as the new stuff looks "too new" on the old girl. Thanks for your help. Mark
