Thanks jim for the answer on my last question. Who made the motor for the first fergie ? Was that in 1947 ?

Both Jim and Mark are correct, however there is a little more.

The TE-20 went into production in 1946 with 316 tractors produced. The Standard motor was not ready in time so Ferguson installed Conential Z-120 engines same as in the TO-20. The Contential was the exclusive engine until the Standard Motor Engine was available in 1947/48. Then the two motors were used side by side until SN 48000. When the Standard Motor engine was used from then on.

It is generly felt that all Cont. Z120 TE-20 were for the US market to support dealership demand until the Detroit plant and the TO-20 could support the US market.

The Standard Motor engined tractors were designited as TE (A)-20 for gasoline motors and other letters for other tractor styles.

The TE20 was sold in quite large numbers in the UK and Europe it was not just for export to the US. Coventry produced a lot of tractors weekly and could supply the USA and meet its obligations elsewhere.

The Ferguson tractors made in England used the same basic motor as the Vanguard car. When I lived on the farm as a kid there was one farmer near where we lived who had a vanguard car and because any british auto parts had a lot of duty on them the owner of this car could get engine parts from the Ferguson tractor dealer duty free as there was no duty on farm tractor parts

There was an American version the TO 20 and and English version the TE 20
I'm not big on the English tractors, but I believe one of there blocks was made by Standard Motor?
I do know the American vesions (the TO 20) were made with the Z120 Continental Motor
-the TO 30 had the Z129 Continental Motor and the to35 used the Z134 Continental Motor.
-I'll let a "20" owner jump in on the exact production dates. I do know that the list of "Research and Info" colum has production numbers and Serial numbers which may help ya out.

We bought a new TE20 in 1948. It had the Continental engine and Lucas ignition.
