TEA-20 Oil Pressure

I have just purchased a 1950 TEA-20 with a Standard engine. The oil pressure is about 20psi at normal idle and drops to about 15 psi as it warms. I have manuals for TE-20s with a continental engines and have sent for the proper manuals on my tractor. I do not know the oil weight in the crankcase now. I have a filter on order and will change oil when it arrives. Any ideas what psi should be on these engines or ideas to look for to correct the situation? Thanks

My TO30 reads around 35# most of the time, but as long as it reads pressure I don't care what it is. Only use non-detergent oil, single weight. The O&M manual recommends 10W below 10deg. F., 20w 10-50 F., 30w 50-90 F. The detergents in oil will gradually detiorate the old original seals. My friend who advises me, used to be the dealership mechanic when Ferguson's were sold new here.

Hey I got the manual for the TEA's and the relief adjustment is at the oil filter externally. Three turns in and I went from 20 psi to 45 psi. Just needed an adjustment. Manual was purchased on-line at this site. BEST money I spent.

Joe, I have owned several Fergusons with both Continental engines as well as standards.
Their oil pressure has varied from 5psi to 60psi. I strongly suspect guages vary somewhat. But as mentioned earlier, as long as you have a reading you dont need to be concerned, These engines are about as bullet proof as they co

Hi Joe.

The manual says that the oilpressure should be between 40-60 psi.
It seems your pressure is a little low.
However, rumours says that the engine will run ok as long as you have an indication of pressure.

NEW OIL AND FILTER MOST PROBERBLY WILL DO THE JOB
AND INSPECT THE STRAINER IN THE SIDE OF THE SUMP
IF THE OIL IS OLD THIS MAY HAVE BECOME BLOCKED
