I finally attempted the governor adjustment for my TO 35 as directed by the papers you sent. My spring that attaches to item G is missing (upper spring). I completed the adjustment without the spring realizing I still need the sring but what exactly does it do?

While I would not describe my completed project as correct it seems better. I still don't see where the governor is compensating enough for the load applied to the tractor and the other thing I noticed is that occasionaly, the engine speed starts to rev up on its own and just keeps climbing. Perhaps that is what the misssing spring controls?

If you mean the spring at the top of the linkage just in front of the fuel tank then you can get one of these from a Sparex dealer as part S43069.
You can't set up the Governor without this spring. The engine racing like that is usually due to incorrect adjustment of the "bumper" screw in the timing cover, just don't over-tighten it or you may break it. but because you don't have the spring "G" fitted then this will have some bearing on the problem. You may need a screwed adjustable short rod between the end of the spring "G" and the Thermostat housing, (not all do) you will have to manufacture this yourself, just long enough to be able to just take the play out of the spring at idle position. If you can't find a supplier, email [email protected] and ask them to tell you their nearest dealer to you, don't forget to tell them where you are though....John
