Tell me about headlight wings

I have a Ferguson TO-30 that I hope to get running someday (after I get myself running again). It currently has some aftermarket repop headlights (Dietz, I think) with the chintzy looking round base mounts, not even the nice round mounts like the NAA or my 800, just those little thin sheetmetal things.

I don't mind the Dietz lights so much as those ugly mounts. The doglegs have punchouts for wing mounts. I've been monitoring wing auctions on ebay and I see some advertise their wings as Ford parts and some advertise them as Ferguson parts. Is there a difference?

If someone has a spare wing laying around, please turn it over and measure the distance between the center of the mounting hole and the center of the locating peg. The distance between the two holes on my Ferguson dogleg appears to be 1.75".

How many wires are on your genny on the 35? Looks like 3 in the photo and my 55 35 only has 2. Has it been converted to 12 volt? Thanks

John, Mike knows almost as much about my 35 as I do! There are 3 wires. 1 is a ground. As Mike said it is 12V. Was 6V with a 12V generator (not original). The generator worked so I used it. Had to "polarize" the generator as the 6V system was positive ground. She really starts good. I was thinking of making a digital movie clip and posting it. Want to change the exaust system first. Keep in touch. John

I've done a couple rounds of exhaust experiments on my 35 and have now what I like. Its the 180 degree bend elbow sold by this site and a big muffler I picked up on ebay thats for the 35s and bigger tractors. It looks like it belongs on the tractor and not some inexpensive universal fit all sheet metal thing. I push snow and don't like dragging the horizontal mufflers through snow. I'm running vertical exhaust and the only probem I see is hitting tree limbs and its louder. The other day I was out for a long time doing snow removal and at 1 point noticed I had sucked up a lot of exhaust fumes and didn't feel to hot. After that I payed more attention to where the ehaust was blowing and changed the tractor direction so the exhaust was blowing away and felt much better quickly. I may get a photo taken today as I'm off work in the daylight for a change. I get a little picky about how my stuff looks sometimes but to each his own. I'm not particular on paint but like parts that fit right and sheet metal thats strait.

john (tr)...i'm pretty sure john's 35 is 12 volt. he just replaced all the lights on it and i'm pretty sure he told me he got 12 volters.

Mike, Is that an invitation ar are you just teasing? Besides I think coming down during the deer hunting season would make more sense. Although we have so many deer at our place it is almost impossible to NOT fill 2 or 3 tags. Talk to you soon!

Thanks! That's kind of what I thought, but then I wondered why a seller would purposely narrow is target market by saying they were Ford wings or Ferguson wings instead of stating they were for either.

I've seen new ones for as cheap as $17.50 plus another $5 for the backing plate. If I can find some originals in great condition for that or less I'll go that route. Otherwise I'll pop for some repops.
