TE20 Head Problems

My TE20 would smoke alot when it ran so I figured it needed rings or maybe a valve job. I took the head off and the exhaust ports for the #2 cylinders each had about 1/16-1/8 inch of soot on the insidewalls. The #1 weren't that bad. The exhaust valve seat for the #2 cylinder had come out of it's seat and was hanging on the valve. I took all the valves out. The seat that was hanging just slops around in the head. Can the exhaust seat be machined to take a bigger valve seat? I'd hate to have to get a different head just because of this small problem. The edges of the seat in the head for the replaceable exhaust valve seat are wore really bad from the replaceable seat flopping against it. Thanks for any help. I did take some pics. If you'd like to see them so you can help me better I'd be glad to email them to you.

Any automotive machine shop should have no problem with that at all. The english sports cars that ran the standard engine would do the same thing. Most of the time it would happen when we had them at the race track, and were pushing the cars very hard. The heat build up would expand the cyl. heads more than the seats were able to expand, and the seat would become loose. Seats are avail. in just about any OD, and if the correct oversize OD isnt avail, they just get a larger one and turn it down on a lathe.

Thanks for the info. When I seen that I got worried and starting thinking about trying to find a different head. I do have a machine shop where I take my cranks to get ground. I'll call them and see if they have done this already. Thanks again.
