was plowing snow with tractor, started to die,put more gas in,now won't start, put charger on battery, tried jump starting it,nothing, turns over good till i drain battery, took distributor cap off there is a spark at points, not sure if its a good one or not,it is getting fuel to carb, if i crossed wires at distributor cap would it still start? 2 wires fell off at cap and i'm not sure if i put them back on where they belong,i think i did,any ideas, what are your thoughts on the battery disconnects where you turn the knob and it disconnects battery,do you think they save the battery life?i bought a couple to try out.thanks

Rusty...,
firing order is 1-3-4-2, with # 1 in the front of engine, and the rotor turns counterclockwise.
Sparking in the points ain't necessarily such a good thing, it steals spark away from your plugs. often, a cause of points sparking bad are points not gapped right (.020 inches), or bad condenser. You should check your spark at a spark plug, should have a blue spark that zaps with authority, a weak orange or yellow spark is no good & likely your problem. If your plug wires or cap got wet, they may be shorting out, may need to dry them out. You can use WD40, silicone spray, or wire dry spray from the Auto Parts store to help with that.
I've never used the battery disconnects your talking about, can't help with that.
