What are the pros and cons of putting on a vertical exhaust on a TO 20?

Thanks for all the ideas, I hadnt thought of alot of those things. I am doing a head job on mine right now and saw an ad on ebay for the vert exhaust and just thought I'd ask. I think I will stay with the underneath style for now.

I have the vertical pipe on mine , and yes , you do breath exhaust fumes and its noisy . I wear shooters hearing protectors when I spend much time in the seat.

My exhaust pipe is old and getting rusty ... when I replace it I'm going with the down pipe/muffler underneath setup . I'll let the rattlesnakes deal with the fumes and racket instead of me for a change.

Out here in the desert there isnt much to burn , but if you use your machine where the exhaust would come in contact with high growing dry grass or high brush that would be something you would want to consider in your choice . Ask around and see what the locals are using and what they recommend in your area .

I much prefer the vertical, with a quiet muffler.
I can extend it higher. This was an option on all
fergs. Car mufflers are Ok and will do no harm.
I have some NOS or mint mufflers.

Two other points, in addition to what Greg said, are: verticle is more likely to get water down it into engine, and horizontal is more inclined to start a fire in dry grass.

If you"re ever doing any brush cutting or lawn mowing, the vertical may get in the way of tree branches. On the other hand, it is out of the way for hay raking or in the extreme case of getting stuck in mud up to the axel.
