TO-30 Coolant Leak

After my tractor sat for a few months over the winter, I went to change the oil. When I did so the oil pan was full of coolant. How can I tell where the coolant leaked from? Some tell me it is the head gasket, or worse a crack in the block. What about bad sleves, or any other seals? I am not really sure where to begin, and I am somewhat of a novis with engines. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

Shortly after I bought my TO30 I discoverd oil in the antifreeze. I had been told that a previous owner had rebuilt the bottom half of the engine. I ran it that way for a bit, until a rocker came loose and I lost 1 cylinder. It was minor, the rocker had just worked loose. However while I had it apart, I adjusted valve lash and then had a notion to check the head bolts after it was warm. Turns out several bolts were loose when I followed the torque sequance... espectially the exterior ones near the plugs. After I retorqued all these and flushed the radiator I never had that problem again. I had to use a special crow foot wrench to get some of those bolts tight.

last year i got to30 for parts i was told the motor was seized i pulled the oil pan and it was full of water so i let her sit.about to mounths ago i put a battery in it and she turned OVER. to make a long story short i put bars leak in it and she hasn't leak since no smoke strong motor so my parts tractor is a good tractor give it a try you have nothing to lose.

A number of years ago I bought a rebuilt short block and I could see where cracks in the block had been welded. It cost about $1600. It took me a long time to get it installed because of time constraints and the fact that I was installing a Z-129 in a TO-20 and needed to find a few extra parts to make it work. After I ran it a little I noticed antifreeze in the oil. I called the place where I purchased it and they said that it was out of warranty even though I barely ran it. I complained some and they sent me a complete gasket set so that I could try to correct the problem. I discovered that the antifreeze was leaking past the o-rings at the bottom of the sleeve on a couple of cylinders. I took a chance with some stop leak and have never had a problem since and I have used it quite hard and put a lot of close to wide open hours on it.

The possible sources for coolant getting into the crankcase are:
blown head gasket - fairly common
cracked block - fairly common
bad O-ring around one or more sleeves- it happens
cracked head - kinda rare but possible I guess
I recomend dropping your oil pan, clean the inside of the crankcase along the bottom of the block best you can, fill-up your radiator & block with antifreeze/water, and watch for it dripping onto the foor, then see where the water is gett'in through. If you can't tell from that, you will probably need to pull the head, maybe strip the block until you find the problem.
If your antifreeze was weak & the block froze... it's probably cracked. Usually cracks in between the cylinders on the top & bottom of the block. Bottom cracks are the worst, usually needs brazed or pinned, costs $$$.

I had a like problem. I bought a can of Block Seal* and installed it, following the directions very carefully. Note: you must follow the directions or it won"t work. Problem solved!
