Looking at buying a Ferguson

I will go this weekend to look at a tractor, of which I know nothing about. He said it is late 60's or early 70's, and comes with a "12' Ransome Mower". It is diesel, and has served its life as a fairway mower until the rear end went "clunk-clunk".

Other than the obvious serial numbers and general condition, what kind of things should I look especially for? He says it runs good, and is probably worth around $2000. I can have it for $500 (the buddy-system). I would use it for home-farm use, mowing 2-3 acres. I'd like the ability to add a front loader too.

TIA!
Tom

OK, I got it and am still unsure what I have. This may be the wrong forum because it may be an '80's model: MF20D, serial number 811031. It has a Ransome Hydraulic 7 Sportcutter on it, and is driven by a Perkins 3-cylinder diesel.

What is it, exactly? What is a good source for parts and information?

I am thinking of selling or trading the mower for other implements, such as a flail mower, post hole digger, etc. as I don't need a golf-quality mower. Any ideas?

Tom
