TO 20 lights

On my ferguson TO 20 that i am restoring, that belonged to my grandfather,are the holes in the front headlight assembly the original place to turn the lights on. Or can i bypass this and install a switch by the gauges. I ordered replacement headlights, and it came with a sort of toggle switch. can i get some help on this issue. thank you rylan.

The TO-20 is different than the TO-30 and TO-35 on the light switch.The light switch should be mounted on the lower part of the dash next to the key ignition switch. It is a push-pull type switch. The light with the switch mounted on it is a rear work light and is mounted on the right fender.

Mike, per my installation dwg for the light kit for the TO20, the light switch(push-pull) is mounted in line with the ammeter and just to the left of it 2 1/2 inches c-c for the holes. The hole for the switch on TO20 has a knockout but if not the hole is to be 3/8 in dia. The TE20 does not have knockouts for the switch or headlights and a 3/8 in. hole drilled out on dash and 1/2in. holes in the side panels for the headlights.

Both fellas are correct. For several years the TO35's continued using the larger "Hall" lights. As far as the switch-those were only on the work light(singular) on the rear-the fronts did not need switches. For John (TR) year 35, those are the correct lights. On most of the green greys, the rings were chrome (including work light) from the factory. Later, they were painted red to match the tractor. The work lights were actually exactly the same size as the head lights.--I've seen many worklights brought around to the front and had the switch either plugged or just installed facing downward. The lights are turned on using the "light" position on the ignition switch, so your light wiring must go to this positon if you want it like original. No toggle switch needed. The TE20 did use a separate toggle switch however
The back work light had an integral toggle switch in the light housing which allowed independent operation from the other lights.

If I'm not mistaken the Ferguson headlights are similar to the Ford and do not use a toggle switch. The rear facing work light is a bit smaller in dia and does use a toggle switch. Here is a link to a popular Ford site that shows the differences. The Fergy headlights on my TO 20 had 2 screws 180 degrees apart through the ring into the light can.
