T O 35 pos. or neg. ground?

Have a to 35 with 12 volt gen.I noticed it was hooked up -groud at battery. I just bought this tractor 3 wks ago.I was talking to a tractor friend of mine who told me it should be + ground.He told me the wire on distributor to coil would be + to points if it is + ground.Now mind you the charging system was working fine until he told me this.I changed the terminals at bat.to make it + ground.I started it up for less than a minute and the ammeter went over to 30 amp.Is it to late to polarize it or should I have waited til my points were fried? Any help is welcome. Thanks

The 12v TO-35 has a (-) ground. Change the battery terminals to what they were originally. You will probably have to recharge your battery before trying to start it. Check the wiring diagram below.

How about the 6V TO35? Is it positive or negative ground?

I own a TO35 6 volt system and it is positive ground. Also the tractor is dark green chassis and flint gray sheet metal. FYI
