just wanna let all you TO-35 experts know that you were all right. they DO take 8 gals (U.S.) of gear oil, and apologize for "bugging" you all about it as well as thanking you for trying to help this dummy out.
i finally went back to checking out the dipstick, and after finding a speck of blue paint on it, decided to go actually measure the dipstick out of a friends MF-35. it seems somewhere along the line a previous owner must have misplaced the original dipstick and replaced it with one from a ford tractor...i'm guessing this due to the speck of blue paint on it. i have a new dipstick for it now...the RIGHT one, and am replacing the oil i drained out of it. the only thing that bothers me is that i've been running that tractor on a low level of fluid since i got it. i hope it hasn't messed something up. once again...thanks to all for your help. i probably wouldn't have solved this without it.
