question for John (UK)....does the (UK) stand for United Kingdom? if so, when you said to use 6-1/2 gals. (hydr. oil) are you talking U.S. gals. or what we call imperial gals.? 8 gals. U.S.= 6-1/2 gals. Imp.

Sorry I hadn't read this until now, yes the UK does stand for United Kingdom, that is where I am based, I can't use just John alone as someone else has it already The oil capacity I was talking about is 6-1/2 gallons imperial measurement, the figure we have in US measurement is 32 quarts which would equal 8 US gallons. I do know for a fact that the system does hold 6-1/2 Imp gallons as I have done this many times so just where it is wrong I cannot imagine, but see my other posting...John

To convert U.S. gallons to Imperial gallons:
USG x 4/5 = Imp. gallons

To convert Imp gallons to U.S. gallons:
Imp. gallons x 1.25 = USG. OR Imp. gallons x 5/4 = USG.

To remember the conversion, just remember that where the difference begins is that in an Imperial quart, there are 5 cups, and in a US quart, there are 4. Imperial people still have 4 quarts in a gallon, with the convenient result that a gallon of water is 160 ounces - both in volume and in weight.
But I suppose this means if we want to down a fifth of whisky, we have to be heavier drinkers...
Jim W (from Canada where we used UK-type measurements, till we went metric. Except in building contruction.)

It takes 8 US gallons or 6.5 Imperial gallons or 29 liters for the metric folks.
Here's a tip.
Take out the bottom bolt on the right side cover plate, the one with the dipstick, and just fill until it starts to dribble out the bolt hole, but go slow because it takes time to equalize through all the chambers.
This reduces leakage out through the front and axle seals, if yours are leaky.
