I rebuilt my Ferguson TO-20 and put it back together. I think timing is good, but there is no compresssion. Any ideas of whats wrong?

If it has just been rebuilt, there is NO reason the valves should be sticking. If whoever did it knew what they were doing, they would have lubricated the valve guide and stem before assemnbly. If it's been sitting a while, especially if it's been run and then sat, the valves may be sticking from gummy gas. If that happens, usually only one or two cylinders will have no compression. You can see if the valves are sticking by removing the valve cover. If any of the rocker arms have about 1/4 inch clearance, that valve is stuck open.

I didnt do the rebuilding of the valves and the guy who did would probably know enough to do it. I pulled the cover off and I had 3 valves moving, so I pulled the rocker off and messed with the push rods and got all valves to move. I put it back together and I had good compression in 1, but lost it. Now i have good compression in 3 and weak compression in 4. 2 has no compression. I was having problems with my push rods sitting in place good. Is that normal?

Are you sure that the push rods are sitting in the tappets? They're the cylindrical devices that ride on the cam lobes and have a kind of a socket that the push rod sits in. The other end of the pushrod fits into the the rocker arm socket. If you are having trouble with your pushrods staying in place, then tighten down the valve adjusters. They are the little screws on the rocker arm the touch the tops of the valves and are held in place with a lock nut.

Losing compression after having it still sounds like a sticking valve. I am at a loss at the moment - let's hope Jerry in Montana checks in - he's been working on these quite a lot.

If it is indeed in time, about the only things that will make for no compression are no rings or the valves are set too tight. Are you certain you lined up the timing marks on the cam and crank gear?

Indeed it sounds like the vavles are sticking, was it sitting outside? does it have a raincap? if it got much rainwater in there that will cause them to stick. You can usually free em up with a small prybar in the valve spring and some penetrating oil. The valves should all move when you roll it over, if you can get it to run on 1 or 2 cyls then you can use your prybar or big screwdriver to help move the ones that keep trying to stick but you have to watch the pushrod-rocker contact to keep them in line, might need an extra pair of hands there...good luck

It was sitting in a garage. All the valves were moving the other day. I had the cover off and rolled it over and they were all turning. Later some quit working. I think the push rods arent sitting on the cam very good.
