TEA20 Pump splash shield

I know that there is supposed to be splash shield, if you will, between the control valve and the relief valve. Is operation effected without this piece? Thankyou

The idea of the shield is to prevent any sediment that happens to be in the drain plug being stirred up when the safety valve discharges. What it does do though when it prevents the sediment being stirred up is stop it being drawn into the Pump inlet which is immediately above the drain plug.The first 134,000 tractors didn't have this so there is no reason that yours wont operate without it, it isn't vital that it has it.

I don"t think it comes into play unless the relief valve operates, which shouldn"t happen under normal operation. The early pumps didn"t have them, and then they were added later.
It would be pretty easy to make one up out of a piece of aluminum, or aluminium, depending where you are.

First thought from a manufacturing point of view; it would not be there if it were of no benefit. They may have found that the outlet from one of the valves caused too much aeration or misdirected flow causing the pump to cavitate which would affect hydraulic capacity and may damage the pump.
