Happy holidays to everyone on the fergie board. My project is coming right along....I had the crank ground down to .040, and should be receiving my bearings soon. The head is in the process of getting done, and the block is soon to be welded. Today, after rebuilding the carb and cleaning more parts, I took my first real look at the gas tank....After doing some research on this site, I have found out that the baffle has rusted loose....seems to be a common thing with these tractors.....Any ideas about cleaning the interior of the tank...I usually throw a bunch of roofing nails in it, add some diesel/kero and swish it around.....on tanks that are not quite as bad, sometimes I will just take it to the car wash and high pressure wash it..... .and then blow dry quickly to limit flash rust. Any suggestions on this tank with a loose baffle????? ? Have a good night, mike mcmurray

The way I see it you have three options. #1 You leave the baffle inside the tank as it is. I've been running my TO-30 like this for 12 years. The only problem is if you fill the tank full some gas will splash out of the cap and mess up the paint job. #2 You can buy a new tank if you want to part with about $280.00 plus shipping. Or #3 you can cut it open and weld the baffle back in place and then wire weld the tank back together. For me option # 2 is out of the question because money doesn't grow on trees around here. If the gas splashing out of the tank bothers me I'll fill it only about 1/2 full or try option # 3.

Good Luck,

Mike M.
