TO-20 Serial Number

The only number I can locate on my TO-20 is on the left hand side of the steering column (rather than the right side as posted) and the number shows up as 8537P. Can someone help me distinguish what year this is and what the significance of the "P" is? Various sites have provided conflicting information on this.

If the number is cast into the part it is just a casting number for production, it certainly isn't the part number as the casting was not supplied bare only as an assembly. If the plate is not on the dash panel forward of the Steering Wheel there is no way of finding the serial number, you can get an idea of the year of production from the engine number and very often there is a date cast into the Rear Axle trumpet housings, the tractor would be produced about 4 or 5 weeks after that date.
