Can some one explain?

I have a TEA20.
When I press on the brake pedal the shaft running along the axle to the rear wheels turns (slightly) in a clockwise motion.

If I depress one of the single brake pedals one shaft only will turn in a counterclockwise direction.

How does this work? Shouldn't the shaft always turn in a clockwise direction, to apply the brake/s?

Boyde

It doesn't matter which way the cross-shaft turns, it will apply the brakes in either direction. To check if there is anything seized up in the linkage, LIFT each independent brake pedal in turn and if the brake rod alongside the Gearbox bends then the inboard joint on the end of the Independent brake pedal is seized and requires freeing-off. The independent brake pedals will work if you press it with your foot or PULL it up with your hand, this was necessary when working in row-crops with limited space, as you had to manoeuvre using the clutch with your foot and slew the front of the tractor into the rows using the brakes. If you press only one independent brake pedal then only one brake and its linkage will operate, so it is working correctly as far as that goes, but do the above check anyway.
