Swapping to negative ground Easy?? Starting over o

I have a hacked up TE20

I am now pretty sure that i used a 12v coil that needed external resistance. The tractor ran for awhile and then died.. no spark since. Sound like what happened?

Since i'm putting a new coil and points on i figure i should swap to negative ground. I have a 12v battery running a 12v starter with a solenoid type switch that still works in between. The + side has a wire to a switch to turn the points on which runs to the + side of my coil (which will now be a new one with internal resistance). My - coil wire goes to my distributor.

So do i just swap the cables and run everything as normal? I have NO charging system and no ammeter to worry about currently. I just want the tractor to crank and fire on its own first.

Is there a good diagram out there to describe a TE20's 12v neg ground switch that i can go from? Or can you explain it if i'm wrong?

Hacked up is right. To test that the tractor has good points, ignition, etc., and will start do this: Make sure it is OUT OF GEAR; hook one side of battery directly to starter post; turn on key; again MAKE SURE IT IS OUT OF GEAR; touch other side of battery to good ground; tractor should turn over and start if battery is good and if ignition is good. This bypasses anything that might get fried if you have it hooked wrong, and allows you to see if the tractor otherwise will run ok. Then you can go from there to solve remaining issues.

Swap the battery terminals over, if you get charging then re-polarise the dynamo for negitive ground and swap the leads on the ammeter or it will read backwards
