Here is a list of some of the physical differences in the TE-TO's. A) SN Tag- TO's SN is at top of Tag and starts with the letters "TO" TE's SN is at the bottom of the Tag and starts with the letters "TE" B) Transmission Case: TO's are case steel, TE are cast magnesium, or aluminum. (do not rust) C) Steering Column. TO's have a two piece steering column and transmission cover (i.e. the plate with the gear shift lever and the steering column are seperate. TE's have a one piece steering column and transmission cover. D) Tool Box Placement. TO's have the tool box between the gas tank and the radiator. TE's have the tool box mounted just below the battery on the left side (i.e. 9N style) E) Hood latchs TO's have a hood release lever on the lower left side of the dash. TE's have two hood lock "T" handels one on either side of the dash. F) Hood hold open devices. TO's latch the hood open at the hinge point. TE's have a "V" hood support attached at the front of the fuel tank. This rides in rails on the lower edge of the hood. TO's do not have these pieces. G) Dog legs. (hood side panels) TO's have dog legs where the the top goes only about 1/4 the length of the hood. TE's have upper dog legs that go about 1/2 the hood length. H) Fuel filter placement. (Glass Bowl) TO's fuel filter is near the rear of the fuel tank TE's fuel filter is closer to the middle of the fuel tank (2/3 of the way front to back) I) Electrical system TO's have AC Delco electronics and the distributor has push on plug wires. TE's have lucus electronics and the distributor has screw-on plug wires. These are a few of the visible differences that should allow you to ID what you have. Replacement parts through the years may mean that not all these differences are on your tractor.
