Good evening everyone. Thanks for all the info regarding bearing tolerances, etc. I am borrowing an engine hoist and stand this weekend, and am wondering about the next couple steps. First, how do I loosen the crank pulley nut and how do I pull off the actual pulley? I believe the manual recommends putting a block of wood (2x4) in the block to prevent the crank shaft from moving, and then turning the nut...Is this correct? Second, will any type of puller work to remove the pulley? Or are there other ways or other types of pulleys to do this job. I will then remove the crank and cam and check tolerances just to be sure. SHould I "hot tank" the engine block, etc? Any help is very much appreciated! Thanks, mike mcmurray

A block of wood on the crank will work and not do any damage to it. Just be careful with a puller as you could break one of the flanges on the pulley if it is tight, you didn't say what engine it was so can't comment anymore.
