TEF injection timing

Manual says there's a hole in the nearside crankcase that aligns with a 1/4 inch hole in the flywheel to locate the engine at 30 degrees BTDC for timing the injection pump. I can't find one. Anyone know where it is?

Nearside means the left hand side (America drives on the wrong side of the road to where that was built! lol) of the tractor when sat on the seat facing the normal forward direction of travel, you will find a hole so you can put a peg through it that will go in a hole in the BACK (not the side or rim) of the flywheel. You can then spill time the pump to the engine.

Thanks but you are misunderstanding my question. I know what should be there and how it works, its just that I can't see a hole anywhere and wonder exactly where it should be (if there I one). I'm in Scotland so we drive on the right side of the road here, unlike the US contingent. Well, when I say "right" I mean we drive on the left. Its all very confusing. But I know where nearside is ok, just can't find a hole anywhere.

The hole will be there, as it isn"t very big it will be blocked with soil etc. that is what usually happens. From memory it is alongside the setscrew that is approximately level with the bottom of the Fuel injection Pump. If you still can"t locate it, email me at:-

I'll have another look at the weekend. Tractor isn't at home and its not a very urgent job anyway. I'd a fair idea where I though it should be and scraped the face of the casing looking for the hole but couldn't see it at all. Its a 1953 TEF with gravity fuel feed. I wonder if its possible that some have a hole and others don't? I know how to find TDC by other means but it would be handy to find the hole to avoid the hassle.

I'd fogotten about the US names being different. What's the TEF called in the US?

I have never heard of some having the timing hole and others without it and the Service Manual refers to it so I would think that it should be there. We have had them blocked up a lot of times and that is probably what is wrong with yours.
The TEF was never exported to USA or Canada, having said that there are a few that have made there way across possibly for evaluation purposes originally, so we do come across them from time to time.Let me know if you need any help with it....John
