I see in the parts manual that there are starters for a TEA20 with serial number less than 200001 and a different starter for a TEA20 greater than serial number 200001.

Can any one describe the difference between these starters?

Sparex lists a starter for a TEA20 serial number greater than 200001, which costs more than a Bare-Co which looks the same, but does not speciffically say for a TEA20 serial number greater than 200001.

Regards
Boyde

Hello Boyde,

A 12 volt starter will not fit the early 6 volt TEA 20. The later 12 volt starters has the bendix drive on the backside of the flywheel so there is made a pocket for it in the clutchhousing. The older tractors does not have it, and therefor it will not fit.

Sparex no: S.41136 will fit TEA 20 later than 200000
Sparex no: S.60354 will fit TEA 20 before 199999

A Sparex no S.60354 can be used on a TE 20 with Continental engine if you add a 1/16" (1,6mm) spacer between the starter and the flywheel housing.

I hope this helps, if not ask more.

Bill

Boyde, My old parts book shows most every major
part is different. Then I wondered if complete
starter could be interchanged but even though the
flywheel ring gear is the same, the flywheel is a
different part no. For what it's worth my writing
from 45 years ago in that book indicates that the
prior s/n can use a Chrysler 143119 (MZ 41336)
Hope anything helps. Chuck

Thanks, I appreciate the response.

I am looking for a starter for a TEA20 with serial number greater than 200001.

The sparex s41136 specifically states it is for a TEA20 < 200001.

The BareCo B9200 only states it is for the Te20, MF35, 135.

They both look the same. One is less expensive than the other.

The starter you need for a 12v TEA is Sparex part S41136 which was Lucas 25038. Serial numbers less than 200,001 are 6volt and it is a completely different starter. You need the one with the long Bendix drive (S41136)

The diameter of the hole they fit in is different so it is not possible for them to interchange.
