TO35 leak

Hi all,

I am new to the Ferguson family with my wife's TO35. It has a leak where the 3 point arm attaches to the frame. What does this repair envolve? Do I have to split the tractor or is it a simple fix? I am used to Oliver's so please forgive my ignorance.

Jake,
My TO35 had the same problem. The left lower stud for the 3 point setup was loose and leaking. You have to remove the wheel and brake back plate (6 bolts I think) pull the axle. Then undo the million bolts holding the axle housing to the differential. You can now tighten the stud. It is tapered so it should be really tight when you get the nut tight. Reassemble the whole mess. A word of caution. Get some new shims to go between the brake back plate and the axle housing. The old ones will probably be ruined when you remove the brake backing from the axle housing. They are necessary to get the proper clearance at the Timken roller axle bearing. They are avalible from Agri Service Inc. who are the Massey dealers. If you want the part numbers I can e-mail you those when I get my parts and service manuals back from my mechanic

We will need more specifics to help. Do you mean where the two lower links of the 3 pt attach to the tractor, or the top link?

I mean where the two lower links attach to the frame of the tractor. I have lost quite a bit of fluid with the tractor sitting over the last 6 months and want to fix the leak before winter. I am getting short on time.

As John said, remove the left axle housing and pull out the differential. This will let you get to the pins on both sides. Its not a hard job, just heavy. I would recommend using an engine crane or similar to hold the weight of the axle housing. Be careful with the differential assembly, its heavy and oily and mine tried to slide out with the housing and you don�t want it to fall on the floor and break!

Sounds like its the lower lift pins. They stick out below the axel. The good news is.... The bad news is the nuts to tighten them are accessed from inside the axel. On the Fords you have to remove the left axel housing to get to them and they are torqed to something like 150ft lbs. If they have been loose for a while they nay be worn or the casting openings may be worn. Maybe someone here will add to the thread. I've hear the Ford guys using JB weld and reassembling.
