the manifold is from valubuilt tractor parts it will get glowing red tried adjusting the carb but nothing seems to work. what do you guys think

You may have a leaky gasket that's causing your mixture to run lean becase the leak is downstream of the carburetor metering section. With the engine running,ctake a spray can of carb cleaner and CAREFULLY squirt it around the carb to intake manifold connect flange and arond the intake ports on the intake to cylinder head connection. If the engine speeds up where you are spraying, that's where the leak it at. Another potential leakage area to look at is the throttle shaft so spray around both sides of that.
The other possibility is a retarded spark. So check the initial timing and then speed the engine up and check the spark advance. Don't put this off. An excessively lean mixture will cause the exhaust valves to burn.
