Hi all, I have another question on my tractor. I have a terrible time with the gear shifter locking up when shifting from 1st to reverse or 1st to 2nd. I always push down on the shifter when changing gears but still have problems. Am I looking at a transmission rebuild to fix this? The tractor is in GREAT shape otherwise, and I love it. Thanks!

Usual cause of this is a worn selector, the part the transmission lever fits into. You can have this built up and re-profiled but it means partly stripping the transmission down. You could look at the gear change lever, sometimes there is adjustment which allows the lever to drop slightly which doesn't allow the lever to come out as easily, also check the bottom of the gear lever that it isn't worn, if it is you can rebuild it and make it slightly longer.

Another thing you can do that will help is be sure not to push downward on the lever when shifting gears.

Paul, I was told to always push down on the shifter when changing gears, is this not good? It seems worse if I dont!
