Has anyone installed an eletronic ignition on a tea 2085 with the lucas distributer? If so how did it work? Are there differant manufacturers? How much $$$$ did you have to pay? and where did you buy them? I mostly use this tractor in the winter for blowing snow(5 1/2 foot blower) and am looking for a little extra help with starting in the cold northern ont weather.

Pertronix do a kit for the Lucas distributor on your tractor and they work very well. To get the most out of it get the coil too as it does make a big difference. Try these addresses for more information and prices:-

That engine shouldn't really give problems starting, have you got the thinner grade oil for winter use as that will improve matters, if you haven't already moved the ground lead from the back of the dash panel, move it to one of the bolts near to the starter for better performance.

I think that you will need to contact Pertronix, the kit you need is not as standard for the tractor as they are normally positive earth, this changes when it is made Negative earth on some of these kits as you can see from the list. Have you fitted an alternator that made you change to Negative earth or has it just been changed over possibly by mistake as no TE20 series tractors were ever Negative Earth from the factory, not that it matters but it creates confusion over the part number. When you email them quote your distributor number prefix:- D3A4, but tell them it is NEGATIVE Earth. I do have the number for the positive one but not yours. You should also ask them for their advice on what coil to use for your particular application, they will know how to get the best out of their ignition system.

I don't pretend to know anything about TEA20s, but if you have a 12 volt tractor the 40511 coil will work. You can find them on this sight also.
