TO35 air filter/oil filter questions

Hello,
2 questions about TO35.

1) The oil filter assembly sequence. I removed the housing to find the spring installed last, Which I believe is wrong. I also checked the dimensional stack up and it appears that the "TINY" crosshole is very close to the grommet,if the spring is in first. I think the spring would go in first. What about enlarging the cross hole or adding another cross hole closer to the center of the filter?

2) Air Cleaner pipe out of air cleaner to the carb is on about 45 degrees. The tube for this unit is missing. Make one? Buy one? Where? I already have a "S" tube which is no good to me.

Per the oil filter, do what I did purchase an adaptor that allows you to use modern screw on oil filters. Much easier and cleaner.

Maybe a muffler shop that does pipe bending could make you one if you give them measurements.

I think your oil filter is similar to the one on my TO-30 and the spring/washer assembly goes over the bolt that holds the coverplate on. There is supposed to be a spacer at the other end to position the filter. The hole you are refering to is the one in the supply tube I presume. I wouldn't fiddle with drilling these holes oversize because the oil filtration system is a partial flow type and by changing restrictions you change the ammount of flow that goes through the filter at the expense of the oil that is used for lubrication. Regarding the tube to the carb, Sparex makes one that fits the TO-30 and I believe you have a M-S carb and I believe they have the same inlet area so I think it might fit yours (Sparex Part No. S.60074)and it replaces Ferguson Part No. 181 716 M1. Check that against your TO-35 part no.
