My Ferguson TO-35

I have just completed a tuneup and oil change on my "new" TO-35. I"ve noticed it seems to run a little rough at idle, like it"s running too rich (kinda misses, pops, coughs etc). I"ve adjusted the carb, and It runs great at higher rpms. Just wondering what else to check for. Thanks!

Since you said you did a tune-up, maybe you have done all this, but if not, probably best to look at electrical issues first. I'd check plugs, plug wires, points. Are plug wires solid copper core (not the automobile type)? Also, test them for continuity to ensure there are no breaks. Do you have any plug fouling? If so, try Autolite 3116 plugs. Points good? Distributor cap good with no internal arcing? Ignition timing set properly? Only if all those issues are good would I look at the carb.

Sorry, I should have given all the info. I just did a tuneup including new: points, condensor, rotor, cap and spark plugs. I didn't change the wires yet although they seem to test good. I do believe they are regular automotive type though, is this bad? When I first start the tractor (cold) it runs perfectly smooth, then gradually starts coughing intermittently as if its running too rich. I did adjust the carb but it didn't change that. Could it maybe be a bad muffler? Thanks!

You definitely need the copper core wires. I'd change them first, then check the situation. From personal experience I know it makes a difference. I doubt it's the muffler, but it could be the intake manifold, where carb bolts up. Do you have a good gasket there? No water in gas? For the latter situation you can add some of the gas preservative, which is largely alcohol, to mix with any water and run it on thru.
