TEA 2085 Control Valve

I understand that there are two styles of hydraulic pump control valves. One is about 6" long and the other is only 3" or so. It appears that either will physically fit into any given pump but will they both work? How do I know which valve is correct for my pump?

John, thanks for the reply, and the info sheets you sent me. Exactly what I needed and I am happy to know that I'm good to go without the oscillator.

I have a folder on my desktop named John UK that I keep all your info sheets in. I also have hard copies in a binder on my work bench for quick reference. I want you to know that I really appreciate your time and efforts on this forum. Thankyou.

John, thanks. The old valve is chipped all around the tapered end lip. Additionally. I am missing the spring.

I am missing the oscillator, then. I understand it looks like a wire with a small 'block' (square in cross-section) attached to it. I note that the pump has a 'square hole' to receive it. Will the pump work without this oscillator? I haven't been able to source a replacement for it.

Yes it will work, the difference between the valves is on one there is no provision for the oscillator. Incidentally, the square type you mention is the early one, there is a later type that was a flat bar (tapered in the middle)that had a twist in it, so the part in the pump (the cam follower) would just have a slot in it for this type, the earlier one with the square and wire portion had a square inside the cam follower. The later type of oscillator was fitted from tractor 407102. The valve being chipped around the tapered end is due to someone trying to remove the top cover with the Control Fork still attached to the valve. Both valves will fit without the oscillator but of course the chance of the Control Valve sticking is increased. Make sure the the Control Valve moves easily in the Bush in the Pump and that the Bush end is flush with the face of the Pump. It would benefit this valve to use the 15W-30 oil as it is thinner and it would be less likely to stick.

The Control valves are the same size, the difference in length is that yours has an oscillator fitted to it to prevent it sticking. You buy it without the oscillator and use the old one. All the Pumps will interchange and so will the components. If yours is slotted at one end you can use Sparex part S17266. Not all these valves are complete as in your Pump, what is wrong with the old valve?

Thanks Jerry. The problem is, I have no way of knowing whether the pump is original to the tractor. It might be from serial # 1 or serial # 400,001- who really knows?. I need a way of physically determining whether thre long valve or short valve works. Either fits, but do either work?

There must be a difference in the female portion of the pump itself that receives the valve??

My parts manual shows that the control valve for the TE-A20(85) has two part numbers depending on the tractor serial number. Serial No. 407101 and up uses part no. 825 441 M91 and prior to Serial No. 407101 uses part no. 181 163 M91. There were several pump base and the control fork changes that ocurred prior to serial number 330042 tractor so anything after that could fit either valve. To be safe, use the one that goes with the serial number of your tractor. I have no info on the size of the valve, just the part numbers. Hope this helps.
