i would suggest that you could install an engine block heater in the water jacket and plug it in a couple of hours before your going to use the tractor,it should start easily

Matt,

don't bother, I just use the ether, warm days it will start with a little squirt, cold days a big squirt.

Since the tractor and myself are in Melbourne (Australia not Florida) we probably get a little colder than yourself but probably not much.

I am told by the previous owner that the glow plug generally was easy to burn out so was pretty useless. I would also be a bit scared to use the glow plug AND ether - I think that would be a pretty big NO NO. You will need ether so forget the glow plug.

The 23c diesel engines are bad starters anyway. They are renound for it. I live in england which must be a bit colder then were you are, and we dont use the heater in the intake, as we find it is useless. We have to resort to a can of easystart on one tractor - the 23c, which doesnt do the engine much good atall - the combustion is very violent.
I would advise to get her going and see how well she goes. Do not be surprised if buying a new heater hardly makes any difference to a bad starting 23c. Thats my experience anyway, maybe we are just unlucky.

You may find it starts OK in which ase you maybe ant to get a heater to finish the restoration - make sure you get the right one, I think there are a few types.
