TO 30 screws on brake drums

There are 2 screws that hold the brake drum on, What is a good way to get them loose? Since it is a screw and has been on there for years Iam not able get them to turn. I dont have a way to heat them up with a tourch.

I got the screws out by hitting them several times with a hammer and then I had to use a punch and hammer on the outer edge of the slot on the screw. Thanks.

If the slot on the screw is shot and you have a welder. put a nut up there and weld the inside of the nut to the screw head and take it off with a socket. Just a thought! good luck.

You could drill the heads off. Once the drums are removed there will be a bit of the shank left, and you can usually grab that with vice-grips and turn it out.
Or even not bother - the screws are redundant once the wheels are bolted on.

If the following fails, only thing left is to drill them out! Get an old bolt or piece of iron bar for a drift that"s just a little smaller than the OD of that c/s screw. Hit the screw with the drift - approx force about as hard as you can with a 1 lb hammer.
Bet the screw will be almost finger tight now. If not, use a centre-punch near the outer end of the slot of the screw head, at 90* to it & drive screw around.

If you dont want to spend any money, you can do what I did on my TO 20, I just whacked the are around each screw a few times real good with my 3 pound sledge, now dont go assaulting it and cracking your drums...lol but give it some good whacks and then take a very wide screw driver, and they probably will turn with ease. I took a piece of steel that was "L" shaped and ground one end flat to fit into the screw slot and used it to get good leverage without tearing up the head of the screw. So... 2 things, whack the drum area around the each screw good, and use a good screwdriver or something wide and flat to take each screw out. Just my 2 cents

Most dirt bike type motorcycle shops sell a tool called an impact driver. It's sort of a poor man's impact wrench. Bout $20.00 last I checked. Put the bit in the screw head, twist in the direction you wanta go, an whack it with a big ol hammer. PB Blaster is good stuff here too.
