Does anybody know what thread or bolt to use as a replacement oil drain plug? My bolt is shot and my dealer says they dis-continued the plug(bolt). I don't want to pull the plug then try to find the replacement. The dealer thinks it takes a standard 5/16x3/4 bolt corse thread but they do not know the thread pitch. I am guessing the pitch is 18. Then, do I need some type of oring or gasket? Probably can get this at the auto store and use a plat washer between the bolt head and o-ring gasket. Any thoughts??

I went through the same problem this spring. I could not find a 5/8" course pitch drain plug anywhere. Another member suggested using a 9/16" double oversize drain plug, available at most better auto parts stores. Installed it and checked for fit while I had the pan off the tractor working on the oil pump and it worked like a champ, and has not leaked a drop ever since. As a tip, once you get the old bolt out you may be able to salvage it by grinding down the flats to the next smaller wrench size. I did that to mine and now have the original as a spare if needed. Good luck
