My folks bought a H. Ferguson tractor last week. I ran it for a few hours today and ran out of gas. I don't want to mess it up by putting in the wrong fuel, so I am wondering if anyone can tell me if my (all I have is the serial #) TO-32725

Please help!!

Thanx for the info guys. I added gas and it ran for about 10 minutes then quit on me. I can get it started, but it will run for 10 seconds or less. I"m on my way to napa for some lead additive now. I hope thats all that is wrong with the beast.

I think Gerald is on the money. Another thing to look for regarding quitting after a few minutes is a fuel filter. To check them, you can remove the plug on the bottom of the carb and see if the fuel flows free and strong. If not, remove the fuel line from the carb and see if it flows strong. If so, the filter where the elbow goes into the carb could be blocked. If not, it could be the filter where it comes out of the tank. Also, since you are new, I might mention that sometimes, especially when parked on a hill, it will appear there is fuel in the tank when there really isn't enough to properly run.

Don't forget to add a lead substitute. You can get it at any auto store or wal-mart. The only way you would not need the lead substitute is if you (or previous owner) had the head reworked. If you are not sure if the head has been reworked, run the lead anyways, it will not hurt.

It won't hurt the engine to run without lead additive for the next 5000 hours or so. That's not what is killing it.

Actually lead additive may foul the plugs far faster.

Running for ten minutes, then quitting is characteristic of two or three different problems. If the gas tank cap doesn't vent it will suck fuel for about that long and then run out. The other problem that does that is a failing ignition coil that heats up and shorts a turn, then cools off and runs again. Rarely a condenser will do that also. You can check for gas tank vent by loosening the cap when it stops and listen for the air rushing in to fill the vacuum. You can check for coil or condenser by checking for spark just after it quits running.

The serial no. you give is for 1950 TO20. The correct fuel is regular grade gasoline. Should run just fine. LOL Glenn
