I think Phil's finger slipped. TO-20's -30's -35's take 6 gallons of oil. Using the bottom bolt of the inspection plate as a guide is acceptable.

I think we have our wires crossed here guys, the F40 is the same as the 35 and it takes 8 US galls, the TO20/30 takes 6 US galls. The misunderstanding could come about if you have read the quantities for the UK models as the amounts shown are different:- 5 IMP galls for the TO20/30 and 6 IMP galls for the 35...but it still means the oil should just come out of the bottom setscrew hole on the inspection ports on both types to be correct.

No the confussion comes from the fact that I did not fully read the post. I did not pick up on the F-40.

I stand corrected.

Jeff. You have done what I sometimes do by not always reading it fully due to lack of time. It is so easy to miss something especially when it isn't always written that it fully makes sense and you have to puzzle it out. It's not the worst thing that could happen, so put it down to just one of those things that occur occasionally.
John

Oil should be just to bottom of the round inspection hole. Pull a bottom bolt and that should be the level you are looking for. Dipstick is as long as it takes for top of full mark to be at that level. Tractor takes 8 gallons of GL-1 or 10-40, not GL-5.
