I need to install my thermostat in my top radiator hose on my TE-20. It didn"t have one so I don"t have anything to go by. I have three different repair books but none of them show a clear picture of witch way it should be. Also, is there a trick to installing these into the hose. The books don"t mention that either. I mean I could probably get it in there, but is there any farmer"s tricks?

I believe the thermostat has what appears to be 4 little spring clips on the top (radiator side). Were these designed to clip onto the radiator hose connector, and then slide the hose over the top of the thermostat?

Thanks. I'll slam it in after work. What Kind of grease would you use in the coolant system? I can see the dish soap as that is what we use to tint auto glass.

The "Bellows" of the Thermostat should be down-wards towards the engine. There is a little hole in the top end of the Thermostat in the flap that opens, this should be at the bottom so it will allow any water above the thermostat to drain and not be trapped in the top hose. The thermostat should be one that cracks open at 60deg C and be fully open at 93deg. C with a max. valve lift of 1/4"

Oh, and I just remembered something. When telling me which way it goes, does the spring point towards the engine or the radiator? That should make it easy to understand.

The thermostat should be marked with the words "TO RAD" on one side.
