On the TEA20 there is a thing-a-ma-jig that locks the brake, acting as an emergency brake.

I cannot find a picture or diagram or description of this thing-a-ma-jig. I would like to repair mine if I only knew what it looks like or knew what the pieces were.

Can anyone help me out?

Hello Boyde

I live in New Brunswick but am here working in hamilton, I would be interested in going out to see your tea20 and showin you what I know about them. I have two 20's two farmalls two fords and a massy harris. They are great fun to work on. Barney

The brake lock is a very small lever located just to the left side of the brake pedal. By using your hand you can move the lever to engage some teeth linked to the brake mechanism. Although pretty simplistic, it works as a parking brake to keep the brakes applied. To release apply some foot pressure to the brakes and use your hand to move the lever so it no longer is engaged.

I have the lever. How do you reach it. If I am sitting in the seat with my foot pressing down on the brake, there is no way I can bend enough nor are my arms long enough to reach under the pedal to swing that lever up and over to engage in the teeth. If I stood in front of the rear tyre and pressed with my hands, I could reach it, but by then the tractor would have run over me.

It must be missing something.

Boyde

You mean the brake pawl catch, you apply it with your boot toe, it's quite easy to do with practice, to release it you just stamp on the brake pedal.

Can't help you on that problem!! I grant you that it is a bit of a reach and you have to bend over quite a ways to move the lever, but if your legs are long enough to depress the brake pedal when you are seated, and if you can touch your toes when you are seated then you should be able to move the brake lever.

John, you say that I should be able to flick something with my toe. All I have is a thing that hangs below the brake pedal, no way can a toe reach that. It has to be raised above the pedal before a hand or a toe can touch it.

I am missing some pieces, I must.

Does anybody have a picture?

Boyde

There should be a pawl attached to the pedal that engages with the "ratchet" plate that is on the inside of the brake pedal fixed to the Radius Rod studs. If it isn't on the pedal there will be a hole in the pedal that the pin for the pawl goes into.

One of the great forum people sent me a picture. Once i saw the picture I realized my problem. The pawl is not original. The pawl that is on my tractor is hook end heavy, causing gravity to swing it below the pedal.

From the picture I will fabricate a new one.

Thanks John.
