As TLDNC says, wired properly it won't crank in gear. Specifically, it should not crank with the hi-low lever in gear. The long three speed lever really doesn't matter. It was probably painted yellow because of its life as a loader-industrial tractor, maybe with a school or municipality pushing snow, etc. That is also the reason the hood is missing. Even though the 35 hood has an access opening, access is somewhat limited for the radiator and battery with a loader installed. The blue paint is a mystery, but could be anything, perhaps the colors of the school, or just what someone had available.

I wish it were that easy. the motor is locked up....
Filled the cylinders with synthetic oil an let her set for
a few days and then see what happens.( wish me luck)

Who ever painted this tractor did a good job on the Blue.
It sure looks like factory paint to me. blue inside + out.
Maybe they ordered it that way.?

It's a purity good looking tractor, is it worth an engine overhaul??
I can think of a lot of other things to put good money into.
Don't rely need a show tractor but a working one would be good.

The two post switch on top of the bellhousing should be the safety switch that keep the tractor from cranking in gear. IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE THIS SWITCH WIRED AND WORKING CORRECTLY.

Santa,

Your tractor (147273) is definitely a 1955 TO-35. The casting date on the tranny case (C-22-5) means that it was cast on March 22, 1955. Your engine was built on April 18, 1955 and shipped to the tractor assembly plant on April 19. It should say Spec 13 on the right side of the engine SN tag. Your tractor should have a 12v electrical system.

For serial number information, wiring diagrams, paint color codes, and paint schemes, go to the following web site:

Tom - Phil
Thanks
I forgot to say it's BLUE every where. It doesn't have the engine cover, The dash is yellow. I do have the radiator cover insert, it is also yellow. Know any one who has a engine cover and would like to get read of it?

I hope to get the power washer out this weekend and check
for other casting #. I should also add this thing has a loader in it. (Red) Bucket a little ruff but reparable. cylinders? to early to tell yet.
Needs to be washed real BAD.
Unknown if this tractor was 6 or 12 volt at this time. It's going
to need some wiring... There is a two post switch on top of the bell housing? Anyone know what that is- or was for, in this case? No key, just a ugly looking thing that used to take a key. and a starter button.
I guess ILL drop a battery in it and see how much compression I get. Any idea???

Thanks for the help Guys
Santa

Sound like a 1955 TO-35, you can check the serial number link on the left to confirm this. That is a nice tractor, about 35 hp with the high/low transmission.

Good luck,

Tom

The TO Fergies were made in Detroit. The TE Fergies were made in the UK (England). You need to tell us more. Look for a plate or markings on the engine. See anything that starts with a letter "Z"? Like Z120, or Z129, or Z134, etc.? Is it a four speed with an "S" gear slot for starting? Or does it have a two speed tranny with a total of six forward and two reverse gears? Can you tell the original color?
