Just had a question about putting MFs into reverse. Have a 180 and 255 and both are hard to put into reverse. Are there problems with reverse gears on massey fersugons?

thanks jeff

Make sure that you don't have too much free play in the clutch pedal, too much play means that the clutch will not be able to free the drive plate enough to allow you to engage gear cleanly. Usual setting is 3/8 between the footrest and the pedal. Don't take all the play out to make it work though or you will wear the thrust bearing and the fingers on the clutch, if you have to take all the play out to get it to work then the clutch needs resetting or overhauling.

It helps if you come to a complete stop before you shift it out of the forward gear.
