TEA 20 Hydraulics help

I have a TEA 20 that I picked up last weekend. I got it running pretty well. It does smoke blue some but not too bad. The hydraulic lever always returns to the top when I let go of it. Almost like it's pulled up by a spring. Even when the pto is off. When the pto is on I have to hold the control lever down to keep the 3pt lowered, even with a brush hog on it. What is causing this? Thanks for any help. LB

That sounds like the spring that connects to the lift cyl housing has been replaced by one that is too heavy or is hooked up wrong, or the linkage has been taken apart and not replaced correctly. Either way you have to take it apart to see what is going on.

Thanks for the info. What would I need to take apart? The lift assembly doesn't look like it's been removed. The heavy spring between the top link mount and the lift assembly has some play in it when the tractor is just sitting.

There are adjustments that can be made but you really need a manual for a teardown of the hydraulics. If your only problem is as you describe I would first try adjustment of the control lever then if still not working take it apart. If you go to www.fofh.u-net.com they have a good diagram. Also at this site there is a description of adjustment procedure for a TED should be similar. It is at Link hope that will help some.
