Someone I know has a tractor we beleive is a TO-30. Unfortunatly, there is no serial # plate on it. Is the any other way to figure out the exact model and year? Also, while they were restoring restoring it, they noticed that the paint is red, not the grey colour so many of them are. The 'Ferguson' emblem is also detailed with blue lettering. Is there any way to figure out the year by any other numbers? Thanks.
PS. I have a picture if needed. thanks.

There should be a date cast into the rear axle trumpet housings, on the front side. Many tractors were painted red when the Massey Ferguson tractors were painted in the new colours. The only Ferguson tractors that were painted Red from new were in France but they still had the Grey Hood and Fenders. It was called the FF30 but really it was an updated TE series.

Pictures would be good... but here are a few other distinguishing features:

1 TO-30 has external oil filter on the right side of the engine. The TO-20 has an internal oil filter in the oil pan.

2 The TO-30 has a Z129 engine; the TO-20 has a Z120 engine. There is a plate on the engine in the vicintiy of the coil, or if that is gone look for the casting numbers on the side of the block. I think the TO30 is Z129A600.

3 The TO-30 has the air inlet through the right side of the dash. The TO-20 inlet is under the dash...

There are a few other differences, but they are little more less obvious..

Jim

You Have a TEA-20 in reply to farmallman, 08-25-2006 07:07:36

From reviewing you pictures you have a British built TEA-20. It has the Standard Motor. The below picture shows a TED-20 (same motor different fuel system).

The US built TO series does not have the tool box on the side like you show, nor does it have the external oil filter on the left hand side like in Picture #2. These are both features of the TEA.

Hoper this helps

Jeff
