Got my starter back on and man what a difference. She is a 6 volt system and is running great. I do think the coil seems hot after running a while. It is a 6 volt coil (says so on it) This had been used with an 8 volt battery when I bought her. can the coil be screwed up from the 8 volt battery? I also had the genny rebuilt-. Should I just but another 6 volt coil since I really don't know what all this one has been through? Thanks, Mark I know 6 volt coils with 12 volt set ups can really warm up the coil (if not ballast present) but I didn't think a 6 volt system would warm a coil up. Maybe its just that warm from being mounted to engine--however starter is right there as well, and it isn't even warm. Thanks Mark

There is a few amps current passing through the coil so it will get warm just due to resistive heating. It should not be hot to the touch, but warm is normalduring operation. Remember too when you're in the hot sun, the radiative heating can get the outer can hot, even when you're not running.

They always get warm Mark, but they shouldn't get hot. 8 volts should not make any difference to the coil, except maybe make a healthier spark.
