Serial Number location

I have a Ferguson (One that looks like the 8n Ford) It does not have a rating plate on the steering column and I do not see any holes for where one was. Would anyone know of a different location for the serial number or a way to figure it out from other serial numbers? I do not know what year or model it is.

We're not getting there.....

Is the engine side valve or overhead valve?

If overhead valve and the distributor is on the left, look between the distributor and coil and see if there is a flat area on the engine casting with an engine number.

I can't help you with US made Fergies/Fords but if you are having problems identifying where to look, I can post a picture of the engine number location on my TEA20 with Standard engine.

If you are in the USA I can't help you with Continental engines. But there are other guys here who can help.

Hello,

I have looked up and down that tractor. The only numbers I can find are a C36 on the right side rear axle. and a 5113 on the upper right side of the engine behind the generator. All I want to know is what year or what model this is.

You may find a date when they were made on the front of the trumpet housings, (the housing that goes to the rear wheel from the diff.)You cant work out the serial number of the tractor from the engine number, as the engines were not used in strict rotation. There are no surviving records now (I hope someone will prove me wrong on that)

If it is a Fergy it may have casting dates on the side of the diff housing?

My TEA20 has the following numbers cast into the diff housing:

Diff housing: 6 7 3

Casting Date: 6 July 1953

Don't know if those dates are cast into US made Fergies.

Look at the numbers on the engine plate, assuming it is present. Give us those numbers. Do they start out Z120... or Z129... or Z134..., etc.? If so that will help to indicate the model. If it is a US made tractor, the 120 engine was put on the TO-20, the 129 on the TO-30 and the 134 on the TO-35. Sometimes the AGCO dealers can tell you the year approximately by the engine serial.
