Just got back from my moms doin' a little tillin'with my old 35. Pulled up to plot, stopped, put her in engine p.t.o., let up on clutch to double check pto engagement. Push back down on clutch to put in gear..wouldn't go out of 2nd. Pushed on clutch again, still couldn't disengage 2nd gear. THEN, put foot on clutch and she dropped down to second stage of clutch-with little to zero resistance during first stage.
It gave no warnings of problems, shifted fine-took off in gear strong-no slipping-no grinding.
Could something be stuck or is 1st clutch shot?
I thought maybe a shifting fork was hung up, but now the clutch has me freaked. It happened after I put her into engine p.t.o. any correlations between the two.? I'm not ready to send her to the bone yard. Ha Ha....Any suggestions very much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mark

Rocked the tractor and she popped out of second.
HOWEVER, these is still no resistance on top half of clutch (first stage) I have not started tractor since getting out of gear-hoping starting helps. It is like the clutch plates are separated, and staying that way. Can a clutch plate stick? This is why I was hoping running the engine may release clutch. THanks, Mark--one down, one to go.

No it has nothing to do with using the engine pto, it is supposed to work however you set it. If the lever stuck in second gear then the selector that the lever sits into must be worn, just take care when you change gear and you should have little problems, eventually though you will need to replace the selector. Slow the engine down when changing gear or manoeuvring, it just causes unnecessary wear. If the lever is still stuck in 2nd gear you need to get a long screwdriver into the gearbox through the filler plug, and move the selector back to neutral. Don't forget that the position of the selector in the box is exactly opposite to how it is at the top of the gear lever, 2nd gear would be on the right side of the box and in the forward position, it will need sliding back into line with the other selector. Regarding clutch, you will have to see how it behaves over next couple of days to get some idea if there is something wrong with it.

It probably just stuck, Open the oil fill cap, look inside and using a long screw driver you should be able to move the gear. Hope this helps. Look in archives there will be a more desciptive method explained. Terry
