TO35 Not Getting Fuel??? What Did I Miss???

I'm trying to get my Fergie to run after a head gasket replacement and full tuneup. She starts up with a shot of starting fluid, but she won't run on her own gas.

It has a Marvel Schebler TSX 683 carb. There is fuel to the carb and in the float bowel. I disassmebled the carb, cleaned all passageways, reassembled the carb and set it according to manual recommendations. It still will not run on it's own gas, but it does start with starting fluid, then dies when it burns up the starting fluid.

The manual doesn't go into great detail on gas carbs. Any help would be wonderful! ~ Dave

Dave,
I sorry that I just saw your problem. My TO-30 ran, but not good. I rebuilt the carburetor, but didn't find anything seriously wrong. I then removed the brass fuel fitting on the side of the bowl, where the gas line connects. Mine had a fine screen filter attached. You guessed it. The screen was clogged. After spraying it with cleaner and taking a tooth pick I was able to peal out a wad of grass. Your's may be similar. It's worth a look.

Thanks for the reply. I found the problem. Some of the tiny passages in the carb were clogged. I cleaned them out with copper wire strands. She's running great now! ~ Dave

a few thoughts:
is the carburettor linkage all corectly reassembled?
air lock in fuel line.
valve clearances incorrect

Linkage is OK, fuel flow to the carb is good and the valve clearances and all other settings are as per the shop manual.

Today, I tried spraying gasoline into the carb. I choked & cranked her and she fired right up, then quickly died. I did this several times just to make sure that it was the gas that I put in that the tractor was running on. Now, I don't know much about tractor carbs, but it sounds to me like there is something blocking fuel from getting from the carb to the engine.

I just bought five gallons of laquer thinner and I'm going to disassemble the carb again and give it a good long bath and see if that fixes the situation. How does that sound? ~ Dave

Sounds ok.
Have you tried towing the tractor to get it to fire up?

No, but I was thinking about pushing it down a hill and over a cliff. I just spent a half day rebuilding the Marval Shebler carb and still the same thing. Won't fire up with it's own fuel, but it will if I spray some into the air intake of the carb.
