I have recently aquired an older running tractor that requires some work. I am hoping to find out model & year. The name plate has "Harry Ferguson, TEA 299746". It has an aluninum hood which appeared to be red at some point of time. Anyone help?

You can have all aluminium hood there weren't very many but they did have them, possibly a steel shortage at that time. Your tractor was made about the 15th October 1952 and the first TEF (Diesel) came out in 1951 and that had an aluminium Hood on some of them so it is possible that yours had too at that date. It was never red from the factory it was all over Ferguson Grey.

It is not supposed to have an aluminum hood. The sides down may be aluminum, but the top should be steel. They built some with aluminum sides, but I did not have the impression it was the majority.

My 1948 TEA 20 has aluminum sides (doglegs) but my 1949 TED 20 has steel sides.
Yours is a 1952, I have no clue what was normal then.

The tractor was originally all grey. Have a look at this website which will tell you about the year of manufacture amongst other things.
